General Meeting Minutes March 14, 2011

Wadeview Park Neighborhood Association

Regular General Meeting

Wadeview Community Center

March 14, 2011

We had no refreshments as we are still looking for a Hospitality Chairman.

The meeting was called to order by Mark Jansen at 7:04 PM.  There was a quorum present and Earl Livingston served as Sergeant of Arms.

Commissioner Phil Diamond was present at our meeting and participated in the question and answer period with our guest speaker.  He reminded us of the upcoming Spring Picnic and said that the food and monies collected would go to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Randy Tuten commented on wanting Commissioner Diamond to run for City Mayor, calling him Our Diamond in the Rough.  Thanks Randy, must have worked as he has announced his candidacy!

Guest Speaker:   Rick Howard…Orlando City Engineer

Rick spoke on and about the Parahit and Water Garden (flat snake shaped fountain in Wadview Park).  The water feature was put in the park in 1996, and paid for by St. John’s Water Management as a storm water treatment and purification aid for Lake Wadeview.  He was very interesting, explaining the design, purpose and use of the fountain.

He commented on the eight ideas that Mark forwarded on to him that neighborhood members had suggested as new uses for the fountain.  He said that some where very interesting and some a little crazy!  He thanked us for the ideas, explaining that the fountain will remain being used as it was intended.

The fountain has not made Wadeview clearer over the years, however, it has kept it from becoming worse.  When working, the fountain pumps 150 gallons of water from the lake each day and completely turns the water in the lake over every twenty-five days.

Currently the fountain is not running due to leakage onto the sidewalk.  The city has received a quote from the same company that is rebuilding the Lake Eola fountain and plans to fix our fountain.

Watch for the fountain to be working again soon.

By the way…yes, there are fish in the lake and yes you can catch them and NO you should not eat them as they are not safe for food!

General Meeting Minutes February 14, 2011

Wadeview Park Neighborhood Association

Regular General Meeting

Wadeview Community Center

February 14, 2011

Sweet Potato Pie (240 Michigan Street) provided delicious desserts for social time.

7:00 PM President Mark Jansen called the meeting to order.  A quorum was present.  Earl Livingston was Sergeant of Arms.

Guest Speaker:  Ginger Corless from HHI Engineering gave a presentation on the Lymmo Expansion Study/Update.  It was very interesting with much of her information including South Orange Avenue/Delaney, SODO, ORHS and Michigan Street possible routes and stops.

A question and answer period followed Ms. Corless’ presentation.  One questionnaire asked a city representative (who was with Ms. Corless), “Who is responsible for fixing the railroad tracks at Kaley?”  We learned that both CSX and DOT are responsible for the area, with each occasionally deferring to the other to do it.  He suggested that we let both agencies know of our concerns for the condition of the crossing.

We were all encouraged to fill out Lymmo proposed sight questioners during the meeting and acquaint ourselves with the Lymmo web site to offer further comments.

Business Meeting:

Old Business

Minutes:  The minutes are on the Wadeview Park Neighborhood Association web site

www.wadeviewpark.org

Treasurer’s Report:  We have a balance of $6703.81.  $317.46 was paid to Minute Man and $5.00 for a bank charge.  Mark and Frank Vertolli will be contacting the bank to have the $5.00 charge removed and not applied in the future.  The complete Treasurer’s Report is on the web site.

Executive Report:  Mark recognized Genie Tuten for her years of work on the association’s newsletter.  She did such a wonderful job for many years!  Thank you Genie!

C.O.P.:  While volunteers were patrolling the neighborhood they noticed the dirty condition of many of the Neighborhood Watch signs.  Randy Tuten noted that he has some Elephant Snot if anyone wants to use it to clean the signs.

Green Up:  Reminded everyone to participate in the Boone High/Downtown South 5K run February 19th, 8:30 Boone High Track.  Water those trees that were planted during the October Green Up Project as there has been very little rain.

New Business

Cats:  There are several cats living near Wadeview Park.  The gentleman who feeds them is moving to Ohio and asked if anyone would be willing to take over for him.

Wadeview Park Fountain/Waterfall:  Mark asked for suggestions on what to do with the “water project” (if anything) in the park.  Suggestions and comments may be posted on our web site.

Pain Clinic:  With approval of those at the meeting, Mark Jansen will be sending a letter to our city commissioner Phil Diamond, stating that we do not want the current Pain Clinic in our neighborhood.  We encourage Commissioner Diamond to vote on a stiffer policy for governing and approving such businesses.

Next Meeting:  March 14, 2011

Joe Waddell made a motion to adjourn.  It was seconded by Maggie Thompson, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:07 PM.

“M” Waddell, Secretary
